Eurid hat nun offiziell die Einführung der IDN bestätigt. Am 10.12.09 gehts los.
Nachricht von ASCIO:
On 10 September EURid announced that they will support .EU Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs) starting on 10 December 2009. For the first time companies and private persons based in the European Union will have the possibility to register domain names made up of non-Latin characters under the .EU domain. There will be no Sunrise period, therefore it is vital that clients decide which domains they would like to register in advance. Ascio plan on offering a queue starting on 1 November 2009.

The characters that will be supported can be viewed at: List of characters supported

It is important to understand that characters from different scripts/alphabets cannot be mixed. This is mainly due to the occurrence of homoglyphs, i.e. characters from different scripts that look so similar that it is difficult to tell them apart just by looking at them.

The IDNs contains characters from non-ASCII character sets. Examples of these are the Danish å, the German ö and the Romanian ş and characters from the Bulgarian and Greek alphabets as a whole.

The maximum length of the IDN (after conversion into the punycode format (xn--) will be 63 characters (after the www and before the dot). Clients can use the various IDN converters such as at https://portal.ascio.com/idnconvert/idnconvert.aspx to determine the length of their converted domain prior to placing an order.

“IDNs are particularly important for .EU,” notes Marc Van Wesemael, EURid General Manager.
“EURid supports all twenty-three official EU languages, and our employees come from twenty of the twenty-seven Member States. Supporting the use and growth of IDNs comes naturally to us.”

Additional information will be made available in the coming weeks. TLD kits will be updated accordingly.

"Unsägliche IDN" ... es gibt die .eu Domains und damit muss man leben. Ob man will oder nicht. Ich find .eu auch irgendwie komisch, trotzdem hab ich eine ;-) (puhbaer.eu) -> Habs zum Sonderpreis bekommen und diese Chance wollte ich nützen.

und IDN ist nur der evolutionäre nächste Schritt...
